I read that it's one of the easiest culinary herbs to grow, but honestly, I've never used it or tasted it, as far as I know. I'm guessing that it has a lemony flavor from the name? What type of cooking would it be good for?
Yes, lemongrass has a citrus flavor. I haven't tried growing it, but I have had lemongrass tea at a social event before. I believed they used the stalk or the leaves in making the tea.
Lemon grass is typically an Indian and Asian herb found in their dishes. It has strong anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. It is said to help with the colon, stomach and urinary tract.
The oil is used on body-aches and to help relieve headaches.
Usually the stalks are dried and then lightly pounded to release their oils. Sometimes strips will be cut after that. They can be minced or sliced thin after that. I was told to think of lemongrass as I would fresh ginger as far as dishes. It goes well with fish and chicken or a cream sauce.
