Going to a nutritionist

I finally did something I've been wanting to do all my life. I'm going to sit down with a nutritionist-dietitian tomorrow morning and examine what I'm eating with a fine tooth comb. I know there are so many areas where I can improve. The older I get, the more health-conscious I become. Has anyone else done this?

I did. I had to make an appointment with a nutritionist when I found out that I need to eat gluten-free food. At the beginning of this diet I just felt very lost, so I needed an advice. Talking with a nutritionist was a big help.

When I was younger I visited quite a few nutritionist and they offered great advice, but I hate writing down the foods I eat. I managed to lose over 50 pounds by eating mostly fresh fruits, vegetables, and exercising regularly. The last nutritionist I visited offered great advice on minimizing the portions I eat and how to incorporate more fruits and vegetables when eating.

I have not done that, might be something to try. I used fitness pal and i track my calories. Honestly, as soon as you start doing that you will eliminate anything with additives and sugars......it is a great way to start monitoring what you are putting in your mouth!

I've tried numerous times to keep a food journal, but it just isn't going to happen. I get too caught up in the measurements and after a day or so it really starts stressing me out. I think I am too much of a perfectionist.

I don't see the need in consulting a nutritionist because I think I have a good understanding of what constitutes a healthy diet. The internet is a great tool for self-learning, I have taught myself through extensive reading online. My issue with the majority of nutritionists is that they haven't really got a clue about healthy diet, they follow the totally flawed conventional wisdom.

Shaunche, I've always felt like you do, but now that I'm getting up in years, I want to make sure my lipids, my blood sugars and other indicators are where they should be. My husband is much older than I am. We both have health issues that run in our family. I want to begin seeing food as medicine in a way of speaking.

I have never used one before, but it does sound like a good use of time and money. To find out from a trained expert, just what you need to do to be heathier. Good luck.

I've never done it either.

I did, however, talk in depth several times with the owners of the health food store that I used to go to. It was a local shop and not something like GNC. They were super helpful and made a lot of food recommendations for me years back, so I was really happy I did that.
