Cooling fruits

I am told that some fruits (melons, water melons, cucumbers and bananas) have cooling effects in your body. Hence, they are not to be eaten in the evening or at night. Is that true?

Water melon and other fruits that you've referred to are extremely good for health. There is no harm if they are consumed even during night. After all, they contain more of water. Just eat them whenever you feel like.
