Superfoods for Breakfast

October 30, 2012 By jason

Superfoods for BreakfastSuperfoods are foods that contain very few calories, yet they are still extremely nutritious. The consumption of superfoods during breakfast will enable you to start the day with a meal that is high in fiber, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. The high amount of fiber and energy contained in superfoods will allow you to feel full for a longer period of time.

Tofu Scramble with Kale

Begin by scrambling some tofu is a standard pan. The tofu should not be the extremely soft variety. Continue by sprinkling some diced kale on the tofu. The kale contains a large amount of vitamins A, C and B6. You can add various other vegetables to your scramble. This will improve the flavor and make it even more nutritious. You can mix together water and vegetable bouillon to add some extra flavor as well. Be careful not to use too much. Otherwise, it could drown out the flavor of all the vegetables. Begin by using a tablespoon and progress from there. From that point, continue to add a little more until you reach a point where it tastes good to you.

Spicy Barley and Beans

Begin by cooking some barley, then slowly start to add in garlic, black beans, green peppers, tomatoes and onions. If you choose, you can also prepare a stew by cooking all of these ingredients at the same time. The stew will be similar to a hot cereal, but much more nutritious.

Blueberries with Wheat Germ

The combination of wheat germ with common breakfast oatmeal will raise the level of phosphorus, thiamin, zinc and magnesium contained in the meal. The addition of blueberries will give your body a large amount of antioxidants and nutrients. In addition to this, blueberries contain very few calories, but are rich in vitamin C and fiber. The fiber content of this meal will be high because oatmeal has four grams of fiber per serving. Diets that contain high amounts of fiber are good for your heart and enable your digestive system to continue to function correctly.

Crunchy Yogurt Surprise

Yogurt is a great source of protein and calcium and it will not cause any of the problems commonly associated with most other dairy products. However, you should be sure you are eating nonfat yogurt or at the most, 2% yogurt. Goat yogurt is a good alternative for people who can not tolerate normal dairy products. You will want a yogurt that does not contain any fructose or sugar. Combine a 1/2 cup of buckwheat flake cereal with a 1/2 cup of yogurt. Stay away from any buckwheat cereal that contains sugar.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes fit into the superfood category because they do not contain many calories or fat and they have a high amount of minerals and vitamins. They are generally considered to be one of the healthiest vegetables because of the large amount of fiber, potassium and vitamin C that are in them. Cook a sweet potato and then add two tablespoons of walnuts and a 1/2 cup of yogurt. Walnuts contain a large amount of unsaturated fats and nutrients.

Acai Smoothie

Acai berries are an excellent source of nutrients and antioxidants. Health food stores usually sell a pulp made from acai berries. You can combine this pulp with a banana and purified water for a nice morning snack.

Fruit Salad with Cream

Prepare a fruit salad with fruits of your choosing. Next, you will make a delicious, healthy cream. Pour two cups of purified water into a blender. Add one cup of macadamia nuts, 1/2 a cup of raw honey, one organic vanilla bean to add flavor and one teaspoon of non-irradiated cinnamon. Blend it together and then you will have a nutrient dense, superfood rich cream to enjoy with your fruit salad. The cream is great because it does not contain any sugar or dairy.

Eating some of these delicious breakfast ideas on a regular basis will provide you with the energy and nutrition you need to get you through your busy day.
