Cellulite ! One of the most dreaded words in a woman’s vocabulary. However, rumor has it that the word wasn’t even in usage fifty years ago. Since it’s appearance in the English language and on the thighs, tummies and buttocks of millions of women, we are each fighing a daily battle to rid ourselves of it.
There are literally hundreds of home remedies one can turn to for help in ridding themselves of cellulite. Some of them are proven to help and some are downright scary. Please don’t try these without first asking your physician to confirm they are safe and won’t interfere with any prescription medicines you might be taking.
Let’s begin with one the most popular cellulite treatments, coffee grounds. It is believed that the caffiene in the grounds helps to tighten the skin and diminish the dimpled appearance. There are those who claim that the coffee grounds are effective used alone as an exfoliating scrub on the problem areas. Still others mix the coffee grounds with honey for the healing properties and spices such as cayenne pepper and cinnamon to improve circulation to the affected areas.
Many people rely on supplements to help rid their bodies of cellulite. Some suggest adding wheat grass, flaxseed, and or omega 3 oil to your diet to reduce the appearance of those unsightly dimples. Still another home remedy that works for some is drinking the juice of freshly squeezed lemon in a warm glass of water at least three times a day. Others suggest rubbing the celllulite directly with the rind of a fresh grapefruit. There seems to be a pattern here of exfoliation and improved circulation that may play a role in ridding oneself of cellulite. Vitamin C and gingko extract may also help in strengthening the skin and the connective tissue. When skin is weakened it is more prone to develop cellulite and some sources say that genetics also play a role.
Exercise is also touted as being an integral part of shedding cellulite. Some people claim a good aerobics workout is best, while others say that Pilates and yoga are just as helpful. If organized exercise classes are not your forte’, then try a walking regimen. It might not completely cure your cellulite, but at least you will feel better about it.
