What happened at the chiropractor's?

My uncle went to see the local chiropractor a few years ago. My uncle is the kind of guy who cracks his own neck. While he was there, the chiropractor insisted that my uncle let him do it instead. He did, and my uncle felt a sharp pain in his neck that lasted for days. So...was that supposed to happen? What happened here?

Yes when someone is manipulating your bones and spine it is going to hurt, maybe for days. Your uncle may have tensed up when the chiropractor was manipulating his neck.

Ok, but why would the chiropractor do it at all then? What I mean is, what kind of medical benefit could my uncle have gotten out of this? Because he sure was angry about it and there doesn't appear to have been any positive change in his life for it.

That is what I am so afraid of! I don't want to go and feel worse when I leave. I mean sure if it's only a few days and then you are good for a long time that would be fine. I'm just real nervous. I don't think I'd let them touch my neck!
