Tick Protection?

Do you use something on your dog to keep it protected from ticks? I hike a lot with my dog and some people recommended using Permethrin solutions. Has anyone had any experience with it?

For ticks I use the general flea stuff. I have tried some of the natural repellents before, but they do not work that well against sticks. If you find something natural which works let me know.

Problem with natural stuff is that it doesn't work, at least for the moment. I hope someone discovers something efficient soon. I hate how I need to clean my dog every time we go out in tall grass.
