Putting things in the soap

I'm not much of a soap maker but I would love to try it out. I love looking at home-made soaps. I am wondering how do people put something in the middle of the soap and keep it in the middle? Like some put flower petals or something like that.

When it is first made it is very runny and needs to set, so if you have a flower or something you could place that in the mold and it would stay there. Are you talking Melt and Pour or Cold/Hot Process Soap?

How long does it take soap to set? Is it the same for any soap or do different soaps have to set for different lengths of time? Can you put something in the middle while it's cooling?

It takes longer for Cold Process to set than it does Melt and Pour. You have to be quick with melt and pour or it will be to hard to put anything into.
