Kitchen Spices?

I found a recipe for a diuretic tea made with cumin or rosemary. It calls for one teaspoon of cumin or rosemary to be added to a cup of boiling water. I admit this confuses me. Can I just use the "spice" that I have in the kitchen for cooking for this or am I really just wasting my time? I use my kitchen spice, Cayenne, in other things, but I really don't know if that is right.

Thanks for any information on this. It has bothered me a long time.

I don't know about anyone else but I use my kitchen spices for herbal recipes, in my world spices are spices. they have always worked for me.

I would do the same thing. Actually, that is what I do. Like you said, a spice is a spice, and unless a recipe makes a specific comment about the type of spice, I just go with what I have.

I would use your normal kitchen spices. It would specify if it was something special like 'fresh coriander leaves' rather than dried coriander or coriander spice.
