Growing herbs for landscaping

I have heard of people planting some herbs, not for the purpose of eating or medicine. Maybe a lavender or rosemary bush by a path for the scent, or pennyroyal for a pretty ground cover. Have you ever considered that? I'd love to hear others' experiences or choices.

I have only grown them for consumption but some plants would be really nice in a landscape design. I do recall seeing an episode of Victory Garden on PBS that displayed herbal plants in landscape design. I just can't grow most of what they show because the climate zone that I live in is just way too cold.

Oh, I think I saw that one years ago. In fact, it might be where I first heard of the idea. I wonder if you can find those old episodes on Netflix or Hulu or somewhere.

Just the other day as I was cleaning out my flower pots on my deck I was considering not planting flowers next year and growing herbs in the pots instead. I think I would at least like to incorporate some herbs in my pots next year.
