Christmas gifts

I would love to try making some soap for Christmas gifts this year. Is it worth the effort, or does it cost just as much to get started as buying nice homemade soaps to start with?

That is a really fun idea. I would imagine that starting up would cost more, but once you have some of the equipment it would cost less than buying the same kinds of fancy soaps retail.

You can buy glycerin bars and melt it with herbs, fragrances and coloring to make custom soap. You can also buy molds that would shape the soap.

I hadn't thought of the glycerin bars although I've seen them for sale. I may just start out with something simple and a fragrance I like. I like the look of hand-shaped soaps, so I won't need the molds unless I get serious about this hobby. Thanks for the tips.
