Basil

Last year I tried to grow basil and the plant got very, very tall, but not bushy. Most of the leaves were at the top of the stalk like stems. When I removed them, it didn't produce anymore. Now I'm trying again (just got a new plant last night) and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to keep this plant producing all season.

As you use the basil leaves, cut back the stems also. This will make your plant bushier and fuller. It won't hurt it because this is what the plant is for. Basil is easy to grow and does much better when you cut it back.

Thanks, I will try that :) I use fresh basil so often that when I get this figured out I plan on having at least 5 plants. I just didn't want to get that many until I am sure my black thumb won't interfere :)
