Air Pollution and Weak Hearts

I just heard in the news this morning that an international study funded by the British Heart Foundation found that air pollution has a negative impact on people with weak hearts and could even kill them. The research revealed that exposure to gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter from vehicle fumes is harmful to those with weak hearts.

That's unfortunate but not surprising. Vehicles are so omnipresent that it's hard to get away from fumes, even in smaller towns. I’m not sure what the solution is other than better emissions standards.

Another stupid study. Why would they research how polluted air affects people? It's not like we have a choice of breathing anything else! It's a waste of money.

I would have thought that the results of that study would be common sense. People already know this. It sounds like those researchers have nothing better to do except make money for the sake of it.
