    Healthy treats for horses

We tried to talk my aunt into planting a row of carrots just for the horses. She hasn't gotten around to doing it this year, but who knows? I'll bet those two horses could eat up an entire crop of carrots. I have an aunt who has pear trees, so we're hoping that horses like pears, too.

    Growing stevia instead of buying

I think I saw some of the plants at the farmer's market yesterday. I remember seeing something and thinking that I didn't know you could grow those. I didn't do anything but glance at the labels. I'll have to look again when I go back next Saturday.

    Vick's Vaporub

We grew up using Vick's Vapor Rub, but I haven't thought of it in years. The smell of it reminds me of my mom when I was little. It brings back a lot of memories. I didn't even know they still made it. Come to think of it, I haven't had a cold in years. I'm knocking on wood, too.

    Healthy treats for horses

We were visiting my niece yesterday. I always take a couple of apples, a few carrots or some celery stalks to feed to her horse and her 7-month-old pony. What other types of healthy treats are good for horses? Didn't Roy Rogers used to give Trigger a few sugar cubes or something similar? Is...

    Pain bar

This is a new one for me, too. The only kind of pain remedies I've ever tried have come with heat or smell that I don't care for. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a good smelling soap that really did help with those aches and pains?

    The 60-Second V-Up Challenge

These things are so hard for me to do, but I figure at least trying to do a couple is better than doing nothing at all. As long as there's a little improvement every day, you're getting somewhere, right?

    Soaking up the sun

We have had rain and clouds. Today it's really overcast, so there's not much sun about. I am so ready for a sunny day and some time out in warmer weather. It's going to be late May or June before we begin to have nice weather, I'm afraid.

    Milk and Nail Care

I've never heard of soaking nails in milk, but if it works, why not? Do you remember those commercials from way back that had people soaking their nails in dishwashing detergent? I remember the line, "You're soaking in it," and the surprised look on the customer.

    Vitamin D, B12 deficiencies

My sister works the medical field and has commented that there are so many people coming in these days with deficiencies in Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. She says almost anyone who works indoors all the time probably need supplements. I have been on them for several years after my doctor did blood...

    Fear of needles

These needles are so tiny you really don't even feel them. Just don't watch the professional putting them in, and you should be fine. I just read where a lot of celebrities swear by their acupuncture treatments.

    List of Herbal Folk Names

I wish I had this list when I was teaching Shakespeare. What a difference it would make when conjuring up spirits with the three witches! I thought eye of newt was a literal term. Shakespeare uses these terms all the time!

    Treating A Bruised Toenail?

For those of you who have had your toenail come off completely, does it grow back? The podiatrist trimmed my husband's nail halfway off, but it grew back just fine. I've heard that it's possible to take the entire nail off.

    Grocery store shopping carts

As I was wiping the handle of my grocery cart yesterday with the convenient little wipes the store puts near them, I thought about how many years that was never even something I thought about. How many people actually use those wipes now? I started about a year ago.

    broccoli with mayo

I like my broccoli plain or with a little lemon juice squeezed over the top after I steam it. I've never even thought to add mayo. We've decided to skip the cheese sauces because we just don't need all the animal fat.

Don't Forget To Make Plain Candles

This is one reason I buy old candles at yard sales whenever I find them at a bargain price. I look out for the unscented ones and make great big ones for emergency use. We don't care how the colors turn out.

    Spring Preparation

We were at the Farmer's Market last week. It was so cold, but they had lots of herbs beginning to come in. I resisted the urge to buy until it gets a little warmer. This week is going to be better, I think. I'm looking forward to getting a bed prepared.

    Sleeping with windows open

I love having the windows open, but I wouldn't dare do it this time of year. We have more pollen than I remember having, and it's coated everything in sight. Opening my windows is just asking for it.

    How clean is clean?

I have wanted to do a colon cleanse and detox ever since I first heard about it. I also have a colonoscopy scheduled for June. Now I'm wondering if all that prep they give you to do its own cleaning helps with this? Is the preparation's cleansing just a surface one? Is it safe to still do a...

    Acupuncture and shingles

I've heard before that an acupuncturist can cure shingles. Has anyone had experience with this? A friend of mine kept putting off having the shingles shot, much to his regret. I hesitate to suggest an acupuncturist, but if it might work, why not try?

    A simple smile

What is that song about taking a little frown and turning it upside down? There are lots more: "Whistle while you work. . . " and "Smile, though your heart is breaking." Smiles are infectious. So is laughter.
