Folk festival promotes fresh, locally grown organic veggies, herbs

CANTON — A circle of vendor tables at Saturday’s eighth annual North Country Folk Festival at St. Lawrence University shared a common theme in many cases — promoting fresh, certified organic vegetables and herbs that had been grown locally through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) sharing.
Saturday’s event was organized by the university’s Green House student organization, whose goal is to create stronger and more sustainable communities in the campus and north country communities. As a house, the 11 members have focused on food as a tangible way to connect with the local community, contribute to a sustainable food system and raise awareness about issues surrounding food.
